Light ray tracing through a leaf cross section.

چکیده
A light ray, incident at about 5 degrees to the normal, is geometrically plotted through the drawing of the cross section of a soybean leaf using Fresnel's equations and Snell's law. The optical mediums of the leaf considered for ray tracing are air, cell sap, chloroplast, and cell wall. The above ray is also drawn through the same leaf cross section considering cell wall and air as the only optical mediums. The values of the reflection and transmission found from ray tracing agree closely with the experimental results obtained using a Beckman DK-2A spectroreflectometer.

متن کاملSimulation of photon transport in a three-dimensional leaf: implications for photosynthesis
A model to evaluate photon transport within leaves and the implications for photosynthesis are investigated. A ray tracing model, Raytran, was used to produce absorption profiles within a virtual dorsiventral plant leaf oriented in two positions (horizontal/vertical) and illuminated on one of its two faces (adaxial/abaxial). Together with chlorophyll profiles, these absorption profiles feed a s...
متن کاملParametric Height Field Ray Tracing
Height field ray tracing is one approach to photorealistic visualization of terrain. Parametric methods, which fall into a new class of height field ray trace methods, are introduced 1. The height field is horizontally sliced into evenly spaced cross-sections. For each cross-section, the Euclidean distance from each point to the nearest point where the slice cuts through terrain is computed off...
متن کاملThe influence of leaf anatomy on the internal light environment and photosynthetic electron transport rate: exploration with a new leaf ray tracing model
Leaf photosynthesis is determined by biochemical properties and anatomical features. Here we developed a three-dimensional leaf model that can be used to evaluate the internal light environment of a leaf and its implications for whole-leaf electron transport rates (J). This model includes (i) the basic components of a leaf, such as the epidermis, palisade and spongy tissues, as well as the phys...
متن کاملSupernumerary spacing of rainbows produced by an elliptical-cross-section cylinder. I. Theory.
A sequence of rainbows is produced in light scattering by a particle of high symmetry in the short-wavelength limit, and a supernumerary interference pattern occurs to one side of each rainbow. Using both a ray-tracing procedure and the Debye-series decomposition of first-order perturbation wave theory, I examine the spacing of the supernumerary maxima and minima as a function of the cylinder r...
